My Danish Christmas heritage
a koala nisse
I am the first born Australian in my Danish family!
Mum and Dad moved to Australia but we grew up with all the language and culture and traditions especially in regards to Christmas.
As chldren we were taught to make flettede hjerter (plaited hearts ) and also helped make Danish biscuits like klejner and brun kager. We always have the traditional roast pork with cabbage and caramelised potatoes followed by ris al mand
We didn't wait for santa like the other Aussie kids ,but kept an eye out for cheeky little nisser!
My greatest memories are from our first family visit back to Denmark to visit all the family and finally see the beautiful land we had been told about all our lives. Since then I have been back again and again , I love it. Now with my own family I am continuing the traditions for Christmas with food and decorating especially with nisser. I have a website http://www.carrolsx-stitch.com where I sell my own designs for Christmas which blend a little bit of Denmarks traditions with a little bit of Australia.
Glædelig jul allesammen !
